What this site is about

Screen Free Playtime is a blog for families who want simple, low-effort ways to play together — without screens. We focus on simple board games, card games, and screen-free activities that:

  • are easy to learn
  • work well for young kids
  • don’t require long setup or complex rules
  • encourage interaction, communication, and fun

No Pinterest-perfect projects.

No complicated rules.

Just simple play that works.

A note from us

I didn’t start this site because I’m a great parent.

I’m Benny — and together with Miley, we’re just your everyday kind of parents trying to get through the day without defaulting to screens every time things get chaotic.

We have three kids: 6-year-old twins and an 8-year-old. Like most parents, some days we do great. Other days… not so much.

There are moments where I just need 30 minutes of peace — to finish a task, or simply sit down without someone climbing on me. And screens are so easy.

But we started noticing something.

When we managed to actually play together — properly play, not fight — the mood shifted. The kids were calmer. We were more connected. And those small, simple moments — a card game on the floor, a silly challenge, a quick game before dinner — those were the ones that stuck.

Not the big, elaborate activities. Just the small ones.

That’s why this site exists.

Most of what you’ll find here are things we actually do with our kids. Some work really well. Some we tried once and never again. You’ll get both.

If you’re a tired parent trying to reduce screen time without losing your sanity — you’re in the right place. If something here buys you even 10–20 minutes of peace, that’s a win.

Love truly,

Benny Tan & Miley Chua
